Bees

Bees are an amazing creature – vital to the workings of nature. They pollinate flowers, make honey, providing the necessary component in the circle of life. That be what it may, they also are very dangerous and can cause serious injury – even death. Provoking bees, or trying to treat them yourself, can result in an attack. Though treating them yourself may seem cost effective, it can be very costly to your health. We recommend that you leave this up to the professionals at Protection Termite.

When it comes to Africanized honey bees and European honey bees, there are similarities to both of them:

  • Look the same
  • Sting to protect themselves and/or the colony
  • Sting before they die
  • Have the same venom
  • Pollinate flowers
  • Produce honey
  • Make wax

They may seem very docile at first but can turn on you at any time. For this reason we strongly recommend that you do not:

  • Tease them
  • Throw rocks
  • Spray them with anything: water, gasoline, etc

Africanized bees can sense a threat from people and animals 50 feet away from their colony. They sense vibration in noise from power equipment 100 feet or more away. They can pursue you up to ¼ of a mile. They swarm frequently to establish new colonies and will move their entire colony readily if food is scarce.

If you are attacked by bees:

  • Leave quickly
  • Do not swat at them
  • Cover your head and face with clothing
  • Seek shelter inside an enclosed area
  • Do not jump in water – they will wait for you
  • Always remain calm

Bees can develop their colonies in many areas such as trees, attics, eaves, play gyms, storage units, patio furniture, etc. If you are by any chance seeing any signs of bees, take them very seriously. Call Protection Termite to schedule for any bee or pest problems you may have.
